  • History
  • The city of Rheinsberg can be found at the southernmost point of the Mecklenburg lake plateau, in the Deutsche Alleenstraße (Route of the poplars). We are close enough to the national highway that you can easily access our facilities, but at the same time, far enough away that you can disconnect from the daily hustle and bustle. Rheinsberg is about 90 minutes from the Berlin city centre and 120 minutes from the surroundings of Hamburg.
The Ruppin region begins outside the doors of Berlin and extends to the north, ending at the Mecklenburg lake plateau. Travelling around the region means a new discovery every day, like following the trail of writer Theodor Fontanes (who was born in Neuruppin) or visiting emblematic places from the Prussian era, be it in car or bicycle, or by crossing the area's immense canals and lakes in canoe or motorboat. Areas like Rheinsberg, Neulobsow, and Lindow are also nationally recognized areas for rest and relaxation.

It is likely that horse-lovers already know about Neustadt an der Dosse. Ever since Frederick William II founded the region’s main horse breeding centre (Haupt-und Landesgestüt Neustadt an der Dosse), Neustadt has been considered the city of horses.

Velten is famous for having a thriving pottery tradition; in 1905 it already housed 38 kiln factories.

The many events that take place in this region, as well as local festivals, also make interesting excursions possible that are always synonymous with variety. For more detailed information about the region of Ruppin, as well as a list of addresses and a calendar of festivals, visit the pages www.ruppin.de and www.magazin-seenland.de .
