  • Lopesan Costa Meloneras is consolidating its condition as an accommodation suitable for disabled
15.09.2008 ■ The hotel has passed rigorous accessibility controls and is now considered to be recommendable for persons with reduced mobility or visual handicaps.

The Lopesan Costa Meloneras hotel has been consolidating as one of the few hotels on the island of Gran Canaria offering the necessary elements to accommodate guests with reduced mobility or visual and auditive disabilities. This summer the four star superior hotel complex has been included in the “Accessible Tourism” website catalogue of “Viajes 2000” (ONCE Group) after passing several highly rigorous controls in common areas and adapted rooms, thus becoming a hotel recommendable for this type of customers.

Situated in the south of Gran Canaria, the whole Lopesan Costa Meloneras hotel, including the massage rooms, is accessible for wheel chair customers. Hotel pools are equipped with hydraulic lifts so that disabled persons may use the facilities without problems. Additionally the Lopesan Costa Meloneras offers blind customers all the hotel information in Braille alphabet, in three languages, including drinks lists and menus in bars and restaurants.

The equipment of the adapted rooms includes additional details as for example mirrors with a special inclination for wheel chair users or special hooks and hangers in wardrobes. Bathrooms are equipped with showers without barriers, special shower seats, support bars and handles, as well as enough space under sinks, etc.

    AWARDS
The tourist magazine Gran Hotel has just selected this hotel of the Lopesan Hotels & Resorts chain as a candidate, in the category of “Best Adapted Hotel”, for the “2008 Hotel Initiative Prize”, awarded every two years. The awards will be given on the occasion of a ceremony in Madrid on November 20th, 2008.

Crisanto Román, Manager of the Lopesan Costa Meloneras hotel, lays special emphasis on the work done in the field of accessibility. “Day by day we are increasing this work in our hotel especially by training our staff. We are aware that we are dealing with a large segment of population including tourists with reduced mobility, visual disability or any other kind of disability and we should not forget persons of advanced age, a segment of population which is steadily increasing due to progressive aging in Europe. The needs of all these persons are attended in our hotel so that all of them may enjoy our facilities in the same way.”
