  • History
  • "The Island of Shelter" or "The Island of Liberty"; there are many ways to describe Fuerteventura. All of them give us an idea of the harsh beauty of this Canary Island made from volcanic eruptions 20 million years ago.

The name Fuerteventura refers to the strong winds that blow here, which provides this island, located exactly opposite the African continent in the middle of the marvellous Atlantic Ocean, with its typical character.

The Phoenicians discovered this beauty as long ago as the XI century. The climate, mild and pleasant all year round, the landscape, dry and yet impressive, not least the dreamlike beaches of around 50 kilometres, some of them still virgin, all promise pure relaxation.

Fuerteventura has something for everyone, whether you only wish to loaf around or make the most of the perfect conditions for hiking, mountain biking, windsurfing, diving, flying kites, water or jet skiing, paragliding or surfing.

When calm, the charm of the island begins to take effect and time loses its importance. Peace and beauty can then be perceived. The clear, fine sandy beaches of the Jandía peninsula and the white dunes of Corralejo beach represent an impressive contrast to the stony, almost black coves of the south-east.
